August is Black-Owned Business Month: We Celebrate With You

During August, we celebrate and recognize Black Business Month and the invaluable contributions generations of Black Americans have made in our communities, economy, and world.

The forward momentum of Black-owned businesses is something to celebrate. According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, from 2002 to 2017, the number of employees from these businesses increased 31.2%. COVID-19 created a slump in this growth, so this Black Business Month brings an opportunity to focus on supporting Black-owned businesses.

African American funeral service providers are central fixtures in the business communities they serve.

Their funeral homes are seen as sanctuaries during times of loss and provide loved ones a place to gather for comfort.  African American funeral homes date back to the 19th century, providing homegoing celebrations that were embodied in the concept of freedom. For this reason, in African American culture, funeral ceremonies are about embracing communities and liberation, not just life and death. They have a rich heritage and are cultural institutions as much as they are businesses. Just like barbershops and churches that service the Black community, Black-owned funeral homes can address the specific needs of these communities.

This month we at Vaughn Greene Funeral Services are proud to celebrate Black-Owned Business Month alongside our fellow community entrepreneurs.

Our family and minority-owned funeral home has served the Baltimore metropolitan area for over 25 years. Founded in 1996, Vaughn Greene crafted a mission to set a new standard in funeral care. With four locations, we are honored to be a hallmark in funeral care. Our promise is to provide our community with the highest level of compassionate care and bring families together to focus on healing while celebrating their loved one’s life and preserving their family’s memories.

Vaughn Greene Funeral Services’ core values include compassion, integrity, quality, and commitment.  Our mission is to deliver high-quality, uniquely distinct funeral service solutions to our community and be a resource partner. Many members of our staff volunteer with local agencies to provide leadership and continue community growth.

In addition to funeral and cremation services, repast services, and pre-planning services, our aftercare Healing Hearts Program provides our community with psychoeducation and additional support around the grieving process.

If you have lost a family member or loved one and need support, please contact Vaughn Greene Funeral Services to find out more about how we can support you in this time of transition.
