Shirley Whitaker Rowlett, age 72, transitioned from this life on Sunday, June 21, 2026 at her home. Ms. Rowlett was born on March 17, 1954, in Enfield, North Carolina, to the late Marjorie Whitaker Washington and Lawrence Smith, moving to Baltimore, Maryland, at age 5.
On Thursday, July 2, 2026, a service for Ms. Rowlett will take place at Zion Baptist Church, where the family will receive friends from 10:30 – 11:00 AM, with ceremony to follow. The interment will take place at Gardens of Faith Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that memorial contributions be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance at ocrahope.org, or to GirlTrek, an organization prioritizing Black women's health, of which she was a member. Thank you.
