Obituary of Helen Edith Peaker
Helen Edith Peaker was born on October 20, 1939 to the late John Wesley Gray and Sadie Marie Gray. She departed this life on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 after a long illness. Helen was born and raised in St. Mary's County, MD, where she attended their Public-School System. In 1953 Helen relocated to Baltimore, MD with her mother and siblings after the passing of their father. Helen continued her education in Baltimore at Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School.
Helen obtained employment at Keswick Nursing Facility, and the London Fog Company. She also worked as a Private Duty Domestic/Homecare Worker. For several years, she was employed by the late Dr. Eugene O. Goldstein (Pediatrician). She continued at this establishment until the rapid decline of her sight; thus being diagnosed as "legally blind" (although she could see well enough to count her money).
On March 24, 1973 Helen was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Steven S. Peaker. Before his passing (April 24, 2011), Helen and Steve celebrated 38 years of marriage. Although Steve and Helen did not have children of their own, Helen (with Steve) was very instrumental and supportive in the care and nurturing of her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Additionally, Helen loved to dance, cook and spend time with her family. A few of her specialty dishes were sweet potatoes, cabbage, lasagna and macaroni and cheese.
Helen's presence in our life will be forever missed; however, she is now enjoying her eternal rest in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
Helen had four sisters and three brothers-in-law who preceded her in death, Allean Moses (Frank), Rosetta Floyd (Earlee), Sadie Finney (David) and Arbutus Gray. She leaves to cherish her memories two sisters; Vertie Gray, and Annie Gray; two brothers, William Gray (Brenda) and Herman Gray (Jean). Helen also leaves to cherish her memories two dear friends; Daisy Long and John Edwards; three special nephews whom she loved as her sons and appreciated; Kevin Thomas, Elder Charles Peaker, and Randolph Peaker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
