Obituary of Nina Brown Hawkins
NINA CECILE BROWN HAWKINS, age 65, of Owings Mills, Maryland died peacefully at home on Thursday, July 2, 2020. She was the daughter of the late Evangelist Bertha W. Brown (née Branch) and the late Deacon Clifton E. Brown, Sr. and entered this world on November 30, 1954, five minutes before her identical twin sister.
Nina, a native of Baltimore, received her formal education in both parochial and Baltimore City Public Schools and graduated from Western High School in 1972. Nina excelled in her 45-year, distinguished career in the administration of pre-trial detention and correctional services for Baltimore City and the State of Maryland. She retired as an Executive Assistant to the Commissioner of Baltimore City Detention Center in 2003 and as an Administrator from the State of Maryland's Division of Parole and Probation in 2017.
Left to cherish the life of Nina are: husband, Samuel Hawkins Jr., daughters Linnea Johnson and Tamara (aka Tammy) Hawkins; son, Samuel Hawkins III (Keisha); grandsons Samuel Hawkins IV and Eli Hawkins; grand-dog, Sophia; brothers Clifton Brown Jr. (Ronelda), Aaron Brown (Norine aka Kim), Paul Brown, Patrick Connor; sisters Alicia (aka Gina) Richardson (Carroll), Estherlita Jackson; siblings Ava Brown, Theresa Brown, Donald Brown, and Etta Rochelle Brown are deceased; sisters-in-law Felecia Brown, Amy Antoine, and Audrey Davis; brother-in-law William Hawkins; Uncle Norman Branch, Aunts Sylvia Welborn and Norma Powell; a host of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews; a host of cousins, friends, and many colleagues.
The public viewing will be held from 4:00-8:00pm, Friday, July 17, 2020. This is open to the public.
On Saturday, July 18, 2020, the wake will be held at 2:00pm -2:30pm with the funeral service to follow at 2:30pm. This service is limited to 75 family and friends due to public health regulations. Please contact the family to confirm your attendance. The service will be broadcast live online via a link that will be announced separately.
All services will occur at Vaughn Greene Randallstown Chapel, 8728 Liberty Road, Randallstown, Maryland 21133. Social distancing and masks are required at all services.
