Roberta Robinson

Obituary of Roberta B. Robinson

Roberta Robinson, age 85 of Baltimore, Maryland, transitioned on Friday August 7, 2020. She was born the ninth child to the late Snider and Margaret Blanchard. Roberta was saved and baptized early in her youth at Morning Star Baptist Church. She was a faithful and long-standing member at Good Shepherd Baptist Church and later at Mount Sinai Temple in Randallstown, Maryland. Roberta was a godly woman, a praying woman, a counselor, an inspiration, and a source of strength for her family, and many friends. She was up in the early morning hours to join the morning call with her prayer partners every day. She was a good listener, she would hold your hand, give you that unmistakable, beautiful smile and you knew that everything would be alright. We will all remember and miss that smile dearly. Roberta graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in 1953 and later attended the first Black-owned business school in Baltimore, Cortez W. Peters Business School on Eutaw Place. She started her career in the federal government in 1957 as a clerk at Fort Holabird, Maryland and worked her way up to a supervisor position at the Defense Investigative Services/N.A.C Division. Roberta was the kind of manager who treated her employees with fairness, respect, and a Christ-like love. After almost 40 years of service, she retired and was determined to remain active. She found a fun part-time job making flower arrangements at Family Affair Florist in Reisterstown Road Plaza and later at another flower shop Peace and Blessings located in Woodlawn. Taking on the role of receptionist at Harborside Healthcare, her compassionate personality was uplifting to everyone. She was always wanting and willing to help anyone. She worked until her body told her it was time to slow down and retired once more. Ms. Robinson, also known as Aunt Burt, Auntie Roberta or grandma--was a lady who lovingly provided and took care of her family and friends in any way she could. She was a caregiver to her father, second mother to her beloved niece, a doting grandmother, loved the Contee family as her own and was a godmother to many. A social butterfly and fun to be around, she enjoyed bowling, traveling, cruises, family reunions, and day trips for shopping and shows. There were regular lunch dates with her sisters and friends at her favorite restaurant. She loved to cook and frequently enjoyed Saturdays cooking a storm in her kitchen. Over the years she received so many requests that she finally started selling those famous 7up pound cakes and delicious sweet potato pies. Roberta expressed love to all, looked for the good in everyone and showed love in everything she did. She never forgot a birthday or special occasion; she made sure to send out cards even when she was ill, and you could always count on a phone call on your special day. On August 7, 2020, she went on to join her sisters and brothers who preceded her in death and her late husband. She leaves behind to cherish her memories: her devoted niece, "baby" sister, life companion, grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, family and many, many friends.
