Obituary
Obituary of Kwuan Darrell Press
On Tuesday, October 13, 2020, at 11:28 p.m. in Columbia, Maryland, Kwuan Darrell Press transitioned from this earthly realm after a long courageous fight with colon cancer. Kwuan was born on September 14, 1978 at 9:14 a.m. at Camp Lejeune, N.C. He exited the womb laughing hysterically and cried only after the doctor gave him the traditional bottom-slap to make him cry. He was the only child born to Dwane D. Press and the late Deserra C. Press. Deserra gave birth to his brother five and a half years earlier. Kwuan was baptized as a child at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Baltimore, Maryland.
Kwuan loved sports. In his early youth, he played football in the Pop Warner League for Hanlon Park—the beginning of what would be a lifelong love for the sport. He graduated from All Saints Rosa Parks Middle School, where he played basketball, and from Forest Park High School, where he played both basketball and football. His talent and passion for football followed him into adulthood where he played semi-pro for the DMV Jaguars (2001-2005) and the Baltimore County Bulls (2005-2006). His continued passion ultimately led him to coach male youth in the Pop Warner League, where he served as a mentor and positive role model beyond the football field. Kwuan's career path thrived in the truck driving industry, where he took his job very seriously, ensuring that each delivery was on time and delivered with his soft hallmark smile.
From a very young age, Kwuan demonstrated an exceptional skill for drawing art without any training. He loved to make people laugh and enjoyed fellowship with family and friends. His passion for exercise and fitness led him to work out regularly in the gym several times per week with his son, Corbin. They always had a unique father-son relationship that was inseparable. Kwuan loved traveling, vacationing, spending time at the beach, amusement parks, movies, and attending cookouts and family feasts. Watching the NFL Raiders Games with his fellow passionate fans at Glory Days was a weekly tradition during the NFL season. Kwuan's arrival was always announced by the roaring sound of his souped-up Charger.
Kwuan will be deeply missed by all who knew him; his strong faith in God gave him resting assurance. Kwuan was preceded in death by his mother, Deserra C. Press. He leaves to cherish his memory: one son, Kwuan Corbin Press; father, Dwane D. Press; stepmother, Melissa McDonald-Press; one brother, Kellye D. Press; numerous loving relatives; and a life host of friends.
