Obituary of Edward Winston Orlando Martin
Edward Winston Orlando Martin was the son of the late Edward and Violet Martin. He was born on July 31st, 1951 in St. Andrew Parish, Whitfield Town, Jamaica. He departed this life on December 15th, 2020.
Winston was a devout Catholic. He was baptized and attended St. Joseph Catholic Church. His devotion to his faith led him to serve as an altar boy in his youth, where he was able to show his commitment to the Lord. Winston attended August Town Elementary School and St. Aloysius School for Boys. Upon graduation he enlisted in the Jamaican Defense Force. His nickname was Corporal Puggy amongst his peers and comrades in the military. He served honorably from 1969 until 1982.
In 1982 he left the military and he came to America to join his parents and siblings in Baltimore, MD. When he arrived in the US, he affiliated with the Church of All Saints in Baltimore. Winston worked as an Electrician, and in 1983 he established his own Licensure under the name W&B Electric. He had a passion for fixing things, so his business excelled in gaining contracts across the state of Maryland. Winston was dedicated to his community. He was a committed member of The Garrison Gents. As a member and President of the organization he participated in community outreach programs through their annual food drives to provide families with meals during Thanksgiving and Christmas. He joined the Knights of Columbus, the world's largest Catholic fraternal service organization, on October 12, 2012 and participated in community service with the Knights as well.
Winston was a jovial man who lived by the saying "Don't worry, be happy." To know him was to love him and anyone he met felt like they knew him their whole life. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His favorite thing to do was brag on his children and grandchildren. They were the highlight of his life and he raised them with love and compassion. His grandchildren always looked forward to breakfast with Pop Pop where he would make his special porridge, that only he could make. Winston was always ready and willing to fix you a plate and your problems.
When it came to past times, you could always find him at his brother's house on Sundays watching football and grilling with his siblings. You could also find him at the Garrison Lounge with The Gents enjoying himself. He looked forward to his fishing and golfing trips but the highlight of his year was his annual father's day trip with his friends, where you could guarantee his phone would be off. He was known for his mashed potato stuffed turkeys and passing out doughnuts and candy to the babies.
Edward leaves to cherish his memories wife Rhonda, devoted friend Betty, children, Dwayne , Tameka (Surrane), Callel (Kathy), Georgianna, Christina (Travon), Jessy and Edward. Grand Children Kaylen, Tarique, Kameer, Tayon, Demario, Ja'Waun, Jarell, Teke, Josh, Amolly, Dwayne, Kamari, Demetrius, Kamaia, Kamia and Ava. Siblings Albert (Novellette), Lola, Marceline, Hubert (Sonya) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
