Obituary of Alfonzo Julius Bohannon
Alfonzo J. Bohannon Jr., the son of the late Frances and Alfonzo J. Bohannon Sr., was born September 23, 1958 in Baltimore, Maryland. On Friday, January 1, 2021 he traded his tired body for a new one and stepped into eternity.
Al graduated from Edmondson High School, Class of 1976, voted as, "the most popular guy".
Upon graduation he started working for the United Postal Service and retired after over 20 years of outstanding service. Shortly after retiring he started his janitorial service and worked until he was not physically able to. All his ideas and leadership were carried out by his partner and employees.
Al spent his early years attending Metropolitan United Methodist Church with his parents. Later in life he was baptized at New Psalmist Baptist Church. He served on the Communication Ministry and enjoyed going out with the Prison Ministry to assist in witnessing to those not yet free. Graduating in the 2003 Discipleship Class with a great group of men, he continued to facilitate a class. He served as a doorman for the Sunday School and a driver for the ladies in the Day Away group. He kept it moving and joined Fulton Baptist Church, where he served in many capacities. When his mobility slowed him down, he continued with ministry by phone. A day would not go by without him reaching out to friends or family with a Scripture, an encouraging word or just joking around.
Al leaves to cherish his memories wife Karen, brother and sister-in-law, Edgar (Sylvia) Allen; two aunts, Mercedes Sharpe, and Peggy Washington; one uncle, Wenzo Thompson; five children, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Al's favorite song to sing
As It Is – Hillsong Worship
Whether now or then, death is not my end
I know Heaven waits for me, though the road seems long
I'll never walk alone, And I got all I need to sing
I know You love me; I know You found me
I know You saved me, And Your grace will never fail me
And while I'm waiting, I'm not waiting, I know Heaven lives in me
So, I will sing like I will there, In the fearless light of glory
Where the darkness cannot find me, And Your face is all I see
Oh, I will sing like a man, with no sickness in my body
Like no prison walls can hold me, I will sing like I am free
I'll sing Holy, Holy, my heart cries Holy
As it is, in Heaven, it is in me.
Deuteronomy 31:6
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.
