Obituary of Arberdella Pannell

***VIEWING & SERVICE TIMES HAVE BEEN REVISED - PLEASE SEE BELOW*** Arberdella Pannell answered the call and went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 6, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Charles S. and Rachel I. Pannell and was born in Langraff, West Virginia on March 21, 1941. At a very young age Arberdella understood the importance of God in her life, love, family, and responsibility. This would set and lay the foundation for how she would live the rest of her life. Arberdella began her formal education in West Virginia and moved to Baltimore, MD at the age of eleven. Upon graduating from Paul L. Dunbar High School, she took some college courses to further excel her education. She worked at two local hospitals Johns Hopkins and Mercy Hospital as a dietary assistant. Arberdella had a calling to teach and she began her career with Baltimore City Public Schools as a paraprofessional until she retired after 42 years of service in 2007. Aberdella loved to educate and inspire young people. She touched over 1,600 students during the course of her career, often serving as a mentor to teachers, students and working the summer school programs. She was so dedicated to ensuring young people were educated that she even conducted summer school in her backyard when she was not working the official summer programs. She was committed to ensuring young people did not miss out on being educated during their summer break. "To teach and never grow weary is Love". Arberdella gave her life to Christ at a very early age while attending Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Brookneal, Virginia. Upon moving to Baltimore, she joined Friendship Baptist Church. After several years of fellowshipping at Friendship she joined the Southern Baptist Church in 1972. Arberdella was a long-term member of the Pastor's Aides and was recognized as an honorary member. She was also a member of the Hospitality Ministry and continued to be a faithful member of Southern Baptist Church and attended weekly services until her health declined but nevertheless she would listen to the church service virtually because she loved to hear Gods word from her Pastor. She was a long-time resident of the 1700 Block of North Washington Street and was known as "Auntie Doll" to her neighbors and friends. Arberdella had a humble spirit but all who knew her was fully aware she was no nonsense and firm in her beliefs. Arberdella also participated in and supported youth activities. In addition, she worked The Miracle Garden within the community. Arberdella was an ambassador for her community. She would attend community association meetings and speak out against violence in the neighborhood. Arberdella was even featured in a magazine discussing the generational and economical changes in the community. Arberdella embodied the spirit of self-less giving- true generosity. Her blessing was in her giving - whether it was giving love, time, attention, advice, clothing or money. She gave all she could. Arberdella leaves a legacy of determination and caring. She encountered many challenges in her life – and won. She kept a positive attitude and her face toward the sun even during the unforeseen struggles of her illness. She never complained. Her motto was just have Faith. I can do all things through Christ, who strengthen me. Philippians 4:13 Arberdella loved to laugh and we will miss her ease dropping on our conversations and adding her own commentary which turned into comic relief. Arberdella had a love and commitment for her one and only daughter Sonia. Their bond was a special one and Aberdella made sure her daughter was provided for. Her only granddaughter Raquel was her heart. On Saturday February 6, 2021, Arberdella answered the invitation to join her heavenly Father. She left the seeds of love, courage, faith, determination, hope and generosity. Her influence as an educator can never be erased because it has been shared amongst so many that she came in contact with. So, water your seeds daily through acts of kindness and do her proud. Aberdella leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted daughter Sonia and son-in-law Carl Suber, two sisters Mary Harris (Wilbert), Marie Addison (Ronald), Sister in-law Barbara Pannell. Predeceased Helen Brooks (Sister) and Charlie Pannell (Brother). Granddaughter Raquel Suber. Her long-term best friend Mary Coles and a host of nieces, nephews; church members, neighbors, and friends.
