Obituary of Isaac John Miller

Obituary Isaac John Miller, Jr. was born June 26, 1936 in Darlington, South Carolina. The second child of the late, Rev. Dr. Isaac John Miller II and Hattie Parrott Miller. He was raised with a strong Christian background. His Great-Grandfather, Grandfather and Father served as ministers in the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AMEC). Isaac was baptized at a very young age. Influenced by both of his parents, he was active in sports (mainly baseball since his father was the coach of the baseball team). During his high school years at E.E. Smith High School in Fayetteville, North Carolina, he played the trumpet in the marching and concert bands. Since his father was an AME minister, he often moved to new cities. What he loved most was meeting new friends and the love shown by congregations to the minister's children. His father served within the Second Episcopal District in churches in the Western North Carolina, North Carolina, and Washington Conferences. Isaac and his wife, Evelyn were united in holy matrimony at Evans Metropolitan AME Zion Church in Fayetteville, N.C. on April 2, 1960. From this union two sons were born, Isaac John IV and Jessup Timothy. During their blessed 62 years of marriage, they were avid travelers; enjoyed all forms of music and entertaining family and friends. Isaac was a very dapper dresser and was a huge sports fan, attending many Baltimore Ravens, Baltimore Orioles, Washington Wizards, Maryland Terrapins, and Howard County Community College sporting events. After high school he joined the United States Air Force, serving for four years in the Security Forces, and during this time he served a 30-month tour in Germany. After completing his military service, he enrolled at Fayetteville State University, N.C. and graduated with an B.S. Degree in Education. After teaching for one year in Southern Pines, N.C. he moved to New York City. In New York City he began his successful career with United Airlines. One of the highlights of his career was being a Cargo Account Executive and retiring after 35 years of service. During his career at United, Isaac was one of the first African Americans to be selected to several non-management and management positions. The positions were: Customer Service, Personnel, Sales, and Marketing. While at United he became affiliated with the EDGES GROUP in NYC. This organization was the front-runner of the present day 100 BLACK MEN GROUP. The Miller family moved from Long Island, New York to Columbia, Maryland. Several years ago, while joining Turner Memorial AME church, then later the Mt. Pisgah AME Church family, he remained an active member. This PK (Preacher's Kid) continued serving God and the community as a dedicated member of the Lay Organization, The Men's Choir and served on the Steward Board. Isaac was preceded in death by his beloved Sister, Dorothy A. Miller-Melvin. Isaac leaves to cherish his loving memory; his devoted Wife, Evelyn Brooks-Miller; Sons: Isaac John IV and Jessup Timothy, Daughter-in-love: Renee, Sister, Patricia Parrott-Miller, Grandchildren: Isaac John V (Tejal), Keisha (Austin), Jasmine and Great-grandchildren: Carina, Aiden and Julian; and a host of other relatives and friends. On Calling hours will be Tuesday, November 23rd from 4:00-7:00PM at Vaughn C. Greene Funeral Serices, 5151 Baltimore National Pike. Services for Mr. Miller will be held on Wednesday, November 24th at Vaughn Greene WEST Chapel, 5151 Baltimore National Pike, where the family will receive friends from 10:00-10:30AM with services to follow. The interment will take place at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, 11501 Garrison Forest Road, Owings Mills, MD, on November 29th at 11:30AM.
