Obituary of Edward Cortez Smith

Edward Cortez Smith, age 71, transitioned Sunday, November 21, 2021. Mr. Smith was born February 4, 1950 in Baltimore, MD. A viewing for Mr. Smith will be held on Tuesday, December 7th where the family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Vaughn C. Greene Funeral Services, 8728 Liberty Road, Randallstown, MD. On Wednesday, December 8th a homegoing service for Mr. Smith will be held at the Vaughn C. Greene Randallstown Chapel where the family will receive friends from 2:00PM-2:30PM with services to follow. ~Life Reflections~ Edward Cortez Smith, son of the late Edward James Smith and Nancy Mae Smith, was born on February 4, 1950 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was called home to be with the Lord after a lengthy illness on November 21, 2021. Edward received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System. He became employed with the Baltimore City Department of Public Works, and worked there for 18 years until his retirement. He later was employed with Sinai Hospital Laundry Department, where we worked until he became ill. Edward was known as and called "Boss" or "Boss man" by his family and friends. Boss met and married his wife of 25 years, Mary O. Smith. The love they shared was undeniable. They took in their nephew, Johnathon Eason, at the age of two years old and raised him as their child, along with his four stepchildren. He also had a special relationship with his Goddaughter, Tambra Jones. Boss loved to cook, listen to oldies and travel with his family. He talked about food 24/7 and could tell you where any market sale was in Baltimore City. Edward was preceded in death by his brother, Eric Smith, stepson Virgil Eason and stepdaughter Cynthia Eason Barnes. He leaves to cherish his memory; His devoted wife, Mary O. Smith; his nephew-son, Johnathon Eason; his step-children, Karen Mitchell and Eric Eason Sr. (Shanell); his Goddaughter, Tambra Jones; his sisters, Linda Smith, Michelle Smith, Felicia Smith, Edith Anderson, Carolyn Blackmon, Lisa Pearson and Lady MacBeth Benjamin; his brothers, Barry Smith and David Smith; his grandchildren, Derek (Katy), Eric Jr. (Alison), Brittany and LaMar; his devoted brother-in-law and barber, Antonio Eason (Crystal); and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
