Obituary
Obituary of Henry Robert Russell
In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust; let me never be put to confusion. Deliver me in thy righteousness and cause me to escape.
Henry Robert Russell, son of Ethel Johnson Jett and the late Eugene Russell, was born on April 27, 1955, in Baltimore, Maryland. On October 25, 2022, after battling a lengthy illness, Henry transitioned from his earthly life. His devotion to his family and belief in God, which he learned at an early age through his Baptist upbringing, supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him rest.
Henry was educated in the Baltimore City Public School system and was a member of Northwestern High School's graduating class of 1973. Upon completion of secondary school, Henry immediately joined the United States Air Force.
While enlisted, Henry traveled the world and took in many breath-taking sights. He considered Montreal, Quebec the most beautiful of all. It was there in 1974, he met the love of his life, Barbara Maclean and her young son, Jason Maclean. Their courtship solidified, June 13th, 1977, as they exchanged vows of holy matrimony. From their union a son was born, Robert Henry Russell on October 25, 1986. Henry and Barbara made their home in Baltimore, Maryland for the majority of their 45-year marriage.
Retiring from the United States Air Force after 11 years of service in 1984, Henry acquired many accolades. He would continue his devotion to the field of aviation through employment as an air traffic controller. Henry remained a dedicated employee as an air traffic controller with Phillip's Army Fields Aberdeen until his passing.
A member of the local line dancing club, "Gold", Henry knew all the latest "steps". Henry possessed a quiet charisma that made him such a joy to encounter at any social outing, whether a crab feast, moto or sporting event. A true home team fan, Henry didn't miss a game. You could find him rooting for the Orioles and Ravens, no matter if home or away—he would even travel to games to support his teams. And just as he loved sports, he loved motorcycles. Twice a year, Henry would take road trips up and down the east coast and across Midwest enjoying the open road on his FJR.
As much as he loved the open road, home is where his heart was---and, the light of his world, his granddaughter Taylor Russell. Henry loved spending as much time as possible with Taylor. He went above and beyond to shower her with love and affection.
Henry leaves to cherish a lifetime of memories, his loving and devoted wife, Barbara Russell; his dedicated son Robert Russell (Dayarna Byrd); his doting granddaughter Taylor Russell; loving mother Ethel Johnson Jett; stepson Jason Maclean of Toronto, Canada; sister, Teresa Johnson of Baltimore, Md; nephew, Van Johnson (Nilam) and niece Sharee Feagans of Baltimore, MD; aunt, Margaret Dees of Annapolis, MD; great niece & nephew, Aria and Roman Johnson; lifelong friends Carey Owl, Lou Lewis; and a host of relatives and friends.
