Met Mr. Freddie Hendricks when he was a coach at my high school(Mervo), and years later, he ended up being a friend of a friend of the family. Also, my son, and his daughter, ended up being friends since their elementary days. My condolences to Pam, Shannon, and all the rest of his loved ones. Rest well, sir.

I first met Freddie many years ago when we were both coaching track. I knew at the time what a successful coach and kind mentor he was.
I had lost touch with him over the years.
He was truly a great man, and the young people he touched are a testimony to that.
He shall be missed.

My first contact with Freddie Hendericks was when he wrestled for Mervo and I wrestled for Doulglass. The next meeting was at the 1962 CIAA Wrestling Champ, when Morgan was a powerhouse placing 1st, and I won the 191 championships helping Norfolk State place third. Our personal relationship started when we both were Baltimore City Coaches, Freedie at Mervo, and I at Douglass in the 70s. Our relationship has grown over the years to a brotherhood. As a coach, I learn so much from this man, especially when it comes to marketing your team to higher institutions. The time he put in and off the track was monumental, especially his connection with Ed Waters and Ralph Durant. Freddie Hendericks assumed a father roles that keep many inner city youths out of prison and open doors to education. He was pioneer of advanced coaching techniques, and a frequent participant at national track & field clinics and workshops. I am so blessed and honored to have been a friend, fellow coach, and companion of Freedie Hendericks...RIP My Brother. Freddie befriended me in 1980 when I was named Athletic Director at Mervo. He was an outstanding teacher and coach of cross country, indoor and outdoor track. We spent quality time together. I will miss him.
