Obituary of Blondell Peterkin

Blondell Peterkin was born in Kingstree, South Carolina on September 7, 1936. "Granny", as they called her, was the oldest child of Rovenia and William Barr. She peacefully went to glory on October 15, 2023. Blondell was united in Holy Matrimony with Ernest Buddy Peterkin on January 19, 1955 in Baltimore, Maryland. From that union four children were born to "Blondie" and Ernest, raising them together in the Gwynn Oak / Woodlawn area where she resided for more than 50 years. Known as a "Blondivva", she was blessed to be both sweet and strong ~ the perfect combination for a 30 year career in early childhood education, beginning with her graduation from Community College of Baltimore (now BCCC) earning her Associates Degree. Blondell never had a driver license, but that did not stop her from going places near and far on weekend cultural experiences with her eager family and travelling to Canada, Bahamas, Bermuda, Africa, Hawaii plus points of interest throughout the United States. She leaves to cherish her memory: four children ~ Vernelle Ethridge, Ernest C. Peterkin Jr. Ph.D., Angela Carter, Valerie D Peterkin; five grandchildren who call her "MaMa" ~ Sherrell Claiborne, Nikia Peterkin, Ernest C. Peterkin III, Tiffini Carter, Imani Carter; fifteen great-grandchildren; two sisters Josephine Barr and Anita Anthony; three brothers James Hardy, William Barr Jr., McSwain Hardy; son in-law Bernard Ethridge; daughter in-law Sheila Peterkin; and a host of other relatives and friends. Blondell is going onto glory to be with her loving husband Ernest Buddy Peterkin; family parents Rovenia Anthony and William Barr Sr.; birth mother Rosetta Hardy; sister Julia Hardy; son in-law William Carter; and all our ancestors who preceded her. A viewing will be held on Sunday, October 29, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Vaughn Greene Funeral Services, 8728 Liberty Road, Randallstown, MD 21133. On Monday, October 30, 2023, a homegoing service for Mrs. Blondell Peterkin will be held at the Christian Life Church, 6605 Liberty Road, where the family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with services to follow. The interment service will be held at the Woodlawn Cemetery immediately following the homegoing service.
