Obituary
Obituary of Wayne Everett Lampkin Sr.
In Fort Campbell, Kentucky on August 27, 1949, Wayne E. Lampkin Sr was born to Laura Mae and William Edmund Lampkin (US Army). Wayne became a member of the "Air Cradle Club" at age 6 weeks, when his mother and father traveled to the State of Washington for another tour of duty; and eventually settled in Baltimore, MD.
Wayne grew up in the Grove (700 block of Poplar Grove Ave) and in 1968 he proudly graduated from Baltimore City College in 1968. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1969, andmarried his high-school sweetheart, Acquanetta Stancil in 1971; and from this union, were born Marquetta, Wayne Jr., and Robert Lampkin. Wayne and his family traveled the world through his tours of duty including Germany, Japan, Puerto Rico, and other foreign lands.
He was honorably discharged from the USMC around 1973 and began to serve in the Marine Corps Reserve thereafter. He served his country with dignity for 20 years, 10 months, 2 days and 5 hours, as he liked to remind people; and he was a 3rd degree Mason of the O'Misawa Lodge, Japan; and started his civilian career with the State of Maryland, Division of Corrections (DOC) as a Correctional Officer and in 1981, he married Sharon Custis, and this union produced his youngest son, Jason Everett Lampkin.
He left the Division of Corrections (DOC) in September 1999 and started at the Dept of Legal
Services as a Paralegal; and received his AA degree in Jurisprudence, from Baltimore City
Community College in 2000; and his Bachelor of Science degree in Jurisprudence, from the
University of Baltimore in 2003.
On April 9th, 2005, he married his soulmate, Valli Barnes (Lampkin), and enjoyed more than 40 years together. Through thick or thin, good, or bad, they never left each other's side. Wayne was co-owner of Simply Legal, LLC with Valli, where Wayne served as the Chief Executive Office and Paralegal for 16 years.
In 2010 he concluded his work at the Dept of Legal Services to enjoy his retirement years; and in 2011, he co-Authored, along with Valli and Jamilah Barnes, a self-published memoir titled "Raised by The Mistress"; about a family dealing with a complicated yet unconditional love story and redemption.
He loved gardening, fishing, and trains. He had plans to move into a new Ranch-style home, on the water, where he could walk down the lane and go fishing, would have enough space to build his train village, and host visits of the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Wayne believed in FAMILY and there was no such thing as stepchild or child-from-a-previous-relationship; they were ALL his children.
