Obituary of David Lee Johnston
Celebration of Life
David Lee Johnston entered this world on September 9, 1936 in Painesville, Ohio. His parents
were Carl and Marcella (Crapser) Johnston and he had an older brother James, all of whom pre
deceased him. He was married to Agnes (Candy) Johnston who also predeceased him.
Dave graduated from high school and joined the Armed Forces of the United States and
received an honorable discharge. He had a passion for learning and graduated from Michigan
State University and later received his Masters Degree. He served his community by becoming
a Law Enforcement Officer, a career that extended over many years. His additional careers
included Director of Public Safety at Massachusetts Amherst University and the University of
Pennsylvania before working for the Educational Testing Service as a Director. He then went on
to form a very lucrative and successful corporation which he kept for over 12 years until his
retirement and move to his "Shady Lane Farm" in Salisbury, Maryland.
Dave was blessed with three children, Jay, Courtney and Ethan who he loved and cherished
dearly. He also had a great love for animals, especially dogs. In Dave's eyes dogs could do no
wrong. When not working he enjoyed traveling, going to the beach, cooking, gardening and so
much more.
In 2004 Dave married his soul mate Candy. He would often say "Candy and I were together
24/7 but we got along and we had a marriage because we loved each other." They enjoyed
each other's company until her death in 2020.
Dave leaves behind to cherish his memories his sons Jay (Dottie), Ethan (Patty), his daughter
Courtney (Jim), his daughter-in-law Lily, grandchildren Gretchen, Kaia, Alissa, Alexandra and
Caroline, his sister-in-law Susan and many devoted nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
